Recipes

Pizza may not be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of spring foods, but once you realize how many of the fresh fruits and vegetables of this season make delicious pizza toppings, you’ll start to see things a little differently.

Below are some great ideas for making homemade pizzas with some of spring’s tastiest ingredients.

Seasonal Veggie Pizzas

Fresh vegetables make wonderful pizza toppings at any time of the year, but these veggie pizzas have spring written all over them.

  • Have you ever topped your pizza with a mix of spinach, mushrooms, and artichoke hearts? These vegetables, combined with mozzarella cheese and a ranch dressing with minced garlic sauce, make for an absolutely delicious spring veggie pizza. You can bake this pizza using whichever method you prefer – pizza stone, baking sheet, or oven rack.
  • How about a sun-dried tomato and arugula pizza? These two ingredients are fabulous together in dishes like salads and pasta, and pizza is no exception.

Unique Chicken Pizzas

If you love chicken as a pizza topping and are looking for ideas other than the usual Buffalo chicken pizza, be sure to try these two spring-inspired combos.

  • Roasted chicken and creamy leeks work exceptionally well together. Try using rotisserie chicken to make a quick and easy pizza to prepare. If you don’t have a pizza stone, you can use a large baking sheet that’s been sufficiently oiled.
  • The combination of chicken, arugula, and radishes makes for a yummy pizza topping. Try combing these fresh ingredients, along with ricotta cheese and goat cheese, to create a light and refreshing pizza.

Fruit Pizza

We can’t finish a post about spring-inspired pizzas without including some fruit pizza ideas!

  • Cream cheese and mozzarella cheese, put together with blueberry jam and fresh blueberries, make one truly mouth-watering dessert pizza. This sweet pizza gets placed directly onto your oven rack and bakes in 15-20 minutes.
  • If a dessert pizza isn’t your thing, combine sweet pears with salty bacon and arugula for a special sweet and savory spring pizza.

And there you have some terrific inspiration to get you thinking about pizza as a new favorite spring food. So head to your local farmers’ market for some fresh produce, get your oven ready, pull out your pizza stone or baking sheet, and try one of the recipes above for a spring pizza night!

Happy spring pizza making!
