One Last Hot-Weather Hurrah with Frozen Cocktails

Mixology

Recipes

As we reach the end of summer, we pass through some of the hottest days of the year, and what’s more satisfying (and fun!) than tasty frozen cocktails? Whether it’s a slushie margarita, or the on-trend frosé, frozen cocktails are incredibly easy to make and can provide a unique presentation for all kinds of events. No slushie machines necessary; just your blender, your favorite cocktail, and ice is all that’s needed to create a cool, boozy treat.

Below are a couple of recipes to get you started.

Red wine sangria slushie in short glass with orange slice

Sangria Slushie

Here we take sangria, a classic warm-weather drink, and jazz it up a bit by adding allspice dram and smoked chili to a base of dry red wine and fresh fruit.

16 oz red wine

2.5 oz allspice dram

2-3 small bunches of grapes

½ peeled orange

½ granny smith apple

6-8 dashes smoked chili bitters

In blender, combine all ingredients with two cups of ice. Blend until smooth. Garnish with an orange wheel, grapes, or any fresh fruit of your choosing. Serves 4-6.

Coconut and mango rum slushie in poco grande glass with metal straw

Island Slushie

Island Slushie

Here we head for the islands and use fresh, tropical flavors to invoke a classic tiki style.

6 oz dark rum

3 oz homemade orgeat

2 oz coconut cream

1 mango, peeled and sliced

1 large peach, peeled and sliced

In blender, combine all ingredients with ice, blend until smooth. Garnish with cherry, tiki umbrella, and chill island vibes. Serves 4-6.
